The Collegian Weekly: The opinion of The Collegian editorial staff
congratulations, chargers!
Issue date: 11/12/09 Section: Opinion
So, it happened: for the first time in its history, the Charger football team made it to the GLIAC playoffs - a big deal not only for the team, but for all of Hillsdale.
At 9 p.m. Friday, two buses full of the most loyal Charger fans will travel to Minnesota. These students will spend the night on the buses to arrive by 9 a.m. The bus ticket costs only $20 and includes game admission, as the school is subsidizing some of the cost.
Everyone knows that Hillsdale College offers a great liberal arts education, but the football team's success proves a new Hillsdale strength. We can now say that our team was in the playoffs in 2009. No other Charger football team has done it before, but this year's has, so we should definitely support them.
We're sure that the members of the administration have a lot of things to do. Still, they took the time to offer students an easy, relatively cheap way to travel to the game and cheer on the team. These things are what people remember when about college, not whatever they did staying in their dorm room instead.
If you can't attend the game, you can still support your Chargers by watching the game online or listening to it on the radio. If nothing else, check for a final score on the college Web site Saturday afternoon.
Supporting the football team during the playoffs is about more than football. It's about being proud of the college we attend and wanting to show it to the world - starting with Minnesota.
