Student federation hands out funds to dancers and hcf

Hillsdale College's Student Federation met Thursday in one of the organization's final allocation meetings of the year.

In addition to passing a request for funding for a new ice rink, the board heard petitions from the Hilltop Highland Dancers for funding for outfits and instruction manuals and from Hillsdale Greek InterVarsity for the funding of a philanthropic event's meal. Both requests were passed unanimously.

The Hilltop Highland Dancers will receive $300 to invest in long-term uniforms and manuals that will belong to the club to loan out to members each year.

Intervarsity's request was similarly honored in similar manner to Hillsdale Christian Fellowship's request.

Two meetings are left to allocate funds this year, senior Brian Painter, president of Student Federation, said.

In those two meetings, Student Federation members have the opportunity to disperse the more than $2,000 of this semester's discretionary funds budget if they so desire.

The next Student Federation meeting will take place after Thanksgiving, Student Federation representative and junior Laura Golden said.

Jitters, AJ's Café to check IDs

Card numbers and good will won't be enough to purchase items at Jitters and A.J.'s Café anymore.

Employees of Jitters Coffee Cart and A.J.'s Café will only be able to take card numbers for the use of Charger Change verbally if the employee knows the person and if the person is the owner of the student ID number. Friends of card holders cannot use cards on behalf of the owner.

The policy change came in the wake of an unfortunate incident.

"Apparently, a couple of weeks ago somebody's number was floating around and people they didn't know were using it," sophomore Brittany Pohl said.

Pohl has been working at A.J.'s since last spring.

General Manager of Saga, Inc., Kevin Kirwan said if a student misplaces their card they should contact Saga offices as soon as possible to have the card turned off. The same goes for any suspected violations or incorrect charges.
