Members: Juniors Alex Green, John Hann, Max Warner, Cory Drewry
What will set them apart: "We'll be heavier than most of the other bands. We'll be performing rock and/or roll," Green said.
the gentiles
Genre: After some discussion, sophomore Seth James declared, "Undecided, like our majors."
Members: Sophomores Seth James, Forrest Kelly, Joe Hersey, Paul Schmitt, Richard Amos, with special guest trumpeter: Paul Schumacher
Why they standout: "Well I have an afro and Forrest is really tall," James said. Kelly said: "We have good material and we'll be playing energetically."
The Consequence of Sound
Genre: A Regina Spektor coverband, playing songs off of "Far" and "Begin to Hope."
Members: Seniors Kayla Hoyt, Nick Nestorak, Emily Birchmier, Natalie Kruser, junior Isaac Johnson, Holly Buell, one song featuring sophomores Rebecca Schoon, Paul Myers and senior Joy Yoder.
Adding a different sound: "We're taking what she does and adding a little more 'oomph' to her songs," Hoyt said.
The Red Hot Brian Peppers
Genre: Alternative rock
Members: Sophomores Chris Stephens, Charlie Fisher
Why Brian Peppers: "Google him," Stephens said
What sets them apart: "We're a two man band, and we don't practice," Stephens said.
The Hilltop Moonshiners
Genre: Bluegrass
Members: Seniors Calvin Stockdale, Tommy Ogden, freshman Drew Snodderly, sophomores Stephen Schilling, Aaron Mortier, junior Andrew Harrison, senior Sean McDermott (not playing).
What sets them apart: Stockdale pointed out that they're the only bluegrass band: "Which in my book, makes us more indie than the indie bands," he said. Also, if last year results mean anything, "We usually have the audience on our side."
Sound of his roar
Genre: Hip Hop/ R&B
Members: Seniors Bryan Leonard, Matt Weibel, Amanda Ruetz, Sophomore Alex Cothran, junior Mark Goss
Why they'll win: "Why wouldn't we win battle sf the bands?" said Ruetz.
How they stand out: "We're passionate about what we play," Weibel said. Leonard added, "The genre we play is underrepresented on campus."
Lockness Swim Club
Genre: "Is hodgepodge a genre?" sophomor Eric Elefson asked, revising his answer to alternative rock.
Members: Junior Anna Stinogol, sophomores Eric Elefson, Sean McDade, Julia Dell'Aira, Holly Buell freshman Ryan Elefson
What sets them apart:
"Definitely the red-hair man, he's a handsome guy," Eric said referring to McDade. With a repetoire ranging from mellow jazz to pop rock: "We've got a pretty big special," Eric said.
The Britton Deuel Band
Genre: Alternative
Members: Seniors Britton Deuel, Mark Goss, Max Warner, and sophomore Alex Cothran
What sets your band apart:
"You can expect a lot of improvisation and creativity from our songs. I think people will have a good time with the originals and an even better time rockin' out to the covers," Deuel said.
What do you think of the competition this year?
"We have a surplus of talented musicians here at Hillsdale and I'm excited to hear what they all have to bring to the table." -Deuel
