The girl's intramural football season ended last Thursday when the Young Guns team closed out a perfect season with a victory over the Chi Omega team.
"It was our roughest game," junior Carrie Kloosterman said. "We all have bruises."
Kloosterman scored the winning touchdown in the championship game.
Chi Omega was leading 7-0 prior to halftime, impressive considering that the Young Guns had not been scored against for the whole season. Young Gun freshman Esther Ashmore tied the score with a touchdown from a trick first play in the second half, and the team went on to win 14 to 7.
Junior Jamie McNeill has has coached the Young Guns for the past two years.
"Defense was the key to us winning," McNeill said.
Senior Abby Ashmore (co-captain of the Young Guns along with senior Winnie Gardiner) also gave credit to the team's linemen.
Intramural football continues to be a good way for campus athletes to have fun and compete with and against their friends.
"The reason I do it is because I love sports," Kloosterman said. "Every year we keep asking younger girls to join, just to keep them involved."
Ashmore also praised the program for its athletic challenges and the community it fosters.
"We're all friends, and it's fun to play with friends," she said. "I've enjoyed seeing how the rest of the girls enjoy it."
