Doug Ingles said local skaters have an interest in skating from skating at birthday parties, recreationally and would like to do more than just go around a small circle.
He said speed skating is broken down by sex and age group, which can range from six to 60. Doug Ingles' team participates within the Great Lakes Speed League, which changes its competition sites regularly. Their last competition was in Aurora Illinois and they're training for nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Doug Ingles said the world championships for speed skating are held each year in different locations. They can vary from Australia to France to Argentina. Doug Ingles said he's been to them all as world-team USA coach with terrific teams.
"The teams I coached won more international medals than any other set of teams," Doug Ingles said.
Now, Doug Ingles has decided to stay local, and keep the family business running and to con-tinue coaching on the side. It's a job that pays for itself.
"Imagine the most awesome experience and double it," he said. "To be a part of that is amazing - it's like a series of dreams coming true."
