The team's lack of togetherness and communication, Gravel said, was a reflection of practices that week.
"Hopefully now they realize that it's true, we really do need to work hard in practice all week to get a consistent weekend," he said.
This week, the team picked up the intensity of their practices. Gravel said the goal is to go into "intense mode," applying pressure now so games seem easy.
In short, Gravel said he hopes this weekend was a wake-up call for his team. Ashland will probably be in the playoffs, and this weekend just showed that to take a playoff team lightly is a mistake.
"It'll come back to haunt you," he said. "It's a tough loss to take. I'm a little lost for words."
Next week, the Chargers travel to take on Findlay. Dow said Findlay will becoming out with a lot of intensity after being beat by Hillsdale earlier in the season and later winning against Ferris State, one of Hillsdale's few losses.
Crowder said they need to play with a more intense desire to win.
"It's just all about us. Enough said."
