Sin the Skin Tattoos, at 227 West Carleton St., is offering a special deal for Hillsdale College students. With a student ID, each student will receive 25 percent off for tattoos.
Jason Hodge, the owner of Sin the Skin Tattoos, says the promotion is an attempt to get his busi-ness involved with the Hillsdale community and to bring Hillsdale students to his shop. The shop has advertized extensively, posting pamphlets along Broad Street in downtown Hillsdale.
"The promotion is kind of a 'welcome back' gesture to the students," Hodge said. "It's also a way for us to hopefully create some frequent customers."
So far, the response to this promotion aimed at the Hillsdale student body has been slow at best.
"As far as I can tell, no Hillsdale students have come into my shop yet, at least none have ac-cording to my knowledge," Hodge said.
Ashley Baker, a freshman who got a tattoo before the school year started, said while the discount offered at Sin the Skin is a good deal, she has a problem with lack of familiarity with the shop.
"The problem is that I would never get a tattoo somewhere that I didn't know very well, even if they were offering a great discount," Baker said, indicating that Sin the Skin may have more work to do to establish itself within the Hillsdale area.
The student discount is not the only deal Sin the Skin Tattoos is offering. The parlor offers big discounts to repeat customers as well as group rates.
Sin for Skin Tattoos is a brand-new business in the Hillsdale area. The shop opened its doors on June 2.
Hodge had previous experience with tattoo artistry while working at Dreadnought Ink in Jackson.
