The lady Chargers swim team came back to campus Saturday with a disappointing loss to Ashland University in what was a simple dual meet between the two institutions.
"We wish we had a diver," junior co-captain Alison Roberts said. "It'd be great. We probably would have beaten Ashland if we had diving."
Roberts added the team still has no plans to acquire or train a diver, mainly due to the lack of a diving coach on campus.
Despite missing out on the victory, the team had some bright spots on the day.
"We had a great team attitude," senior co-captain Meredith Scott said. "Everyone was positive."
Senior Stephanie Sobey, sophomore Linda Okonkowski and senior Cassie Nielsen all swam extremely well, Scott said. Sophomore Michaela Wolfe took first in the 1000-free event as well.
Roberts said the returning swimmers for this year had times ahead of track from last season and said the team looked solid overall in the sprint-free events. Both of these factors will come into play as the team heads to a meet with Grand Valley State University and Lewis University Saturday.
"It's going to be good competition and good races," Scott said.
She said the focus for the team right now, especially for the freshman, is to just relax and concentrate on effort-not times. The Chargers look for that mindset to carry them through the 16-event meet this weekend.
