While most opinions of on-campus dining never get beyond a circle of friends, students now have a way to express their feelings about Saga, Inc. Created last year, Student Federation's Dining Committee now operates as a link between students' concerns and the authorities governing dining policies.

"I think one of the best things we have done so far this year is to promote the Dining Committee," Federation president and senior Brian Painter said. "We aren't trying to put Saga under the gun or anything like that, but we do want to work with them professionally and effectively on certain concerns of the student body."

The Dining Committee met Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. in the Student Activities Office. Members outlined past issues currently under consideration and highlighted areas for future concentration. Healthier options at A.J.'s Café and adjusted hours at the Curtiss Memorial Dining Hall will occupy business priorities.

Chairwoman and junior Brittany Baldwin expressed her hopes of seeing both students' characters and bodies improved by their years at Hillsdale. She looks to the Dining Committee to help achieve that ideal.

"This committee is so enthusiastic about making sure we communicate positive and effective feedback about students' dining experiences here on the hill. We hope to see ourselves as a link between students' desires and those working hard for us at Saga," she said.

The committee is presently focusing on the best ways to combine maximum nutrition with a manageable budget.

"This semester, representatives from the Dining Committee will certainly be having various conversations with Saga about different aspects of the benefits and room for improvement in Hillsdale food services," Baldwin said.

The Dining Committee will meet again next week.
