Finally, a way to wash white socks with a red T-shirt-for students not in the know, there's a product that, when added to a load of laundry, prevents colors from bleeding into each other and making light colored clothes look muddy.
Manufactured by Shout, an SC Johnson Family subsidiary known for its stain removal products, Color Catchers trap dyes that release from dye-heavy fabrics like denim during a wash cycle. Not only does this prevent colors from mixing or fading during a regular load, using a color catcher allows you to mix dark and light loads and save quarters.
At a little more than $4 for 24 sheets, Color Catchers pay for themselves quickly. Assuming the average student does two loads of laundry per week at a combined wash/dry fee of $1.50, the ability to combine a load means a savings of around $10 a semester-depending on how often guys change their sheets.
