Water leaks plague dorms

Maintenance problems in McIntyre Hall forced four women to relocate to a different hall this week. Also, two residents in Mauck Hall have been having problems with a leaky ceiling.
"It was a broken pipe, that's all," McIntyre house director Teri Martin said about the McIntyre problem.
First the rug by the sink was wet, and it just kept getting worse, freshman Kristen Prol said.
"We caught it right away before it got really bad, and we were able to put a towel down," she said.
Eight other women in McIntyre are moving between rooms while similar leakage problems are fixed in their suites.
Prol and her roommate were moved from Lower East hall to an empty room in Upper West while their suitemates were moved to Upper East.
"We would like to move back because we are really close with our whole floor," Prol said.
Maintenance had to remove the sink unit to get behind it and find out what the problem was, Martin said. They will also be installing a new shower.
They were scheduled to fix the broken pipe this past Monday.
"It's not a flood," Martin said. "Just a little, minor maintenance thing. We're not in water up to our necks, the carpet is just wet."
Similarly, in Mauck, the ceiling in a few rooms has been leaking on rainy days.
Sophomore Grace Gardner returned to her room after classes to find that the ceiling around the light fixture was dripping.
The student across the hall has been experiencing the same problem, Gardner said.
"It hasn't been a big deal," she said. "I told the resident student director and maintenance is supposed to fix it, but they have not gotten to it yet."
"In general, I've heard a lot more about the problems that people have experienced in Mauck, but I have not experienced them myself," Gardner said. "So it's better than I expected, but it's a good, old building."
