A typewriter clicks on. A story of two people newly in love unfolds. It's been heard before, but now more people can appreciate its music. Hillsdale Alum and folk artist Tyler Blanski '06, based out of Minneapolis, re-released his first album "Out from the Darkness" online free for download in hopes of reaching more people.
"People don't buy albums the way they used to, but everyone shares music," Blanski said.
"I'd rather have people have my music and be able to enjoy it than not."
And enjoy it they shall. Originally released in 2006, "Out from the Darkness" tells a story about new love and broken relationships, artfully expressing a sense of mystery through pain and joy.
"[With my music] I hope [to] make people be a little more awake and enchanted with the world," Blanski said.
Blanski's music enchants listeners with poetic narration on the aspects of love from the little moments to planning a life together.
The second half of the album focuses on heartache and working through broken love. Though these are both common themes of music, Blanski provides a fresh view, which is relatable, true and sadly beautiful.
The story concludes. She's left him. The typewriter clicks on.

Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johanson's recent "break up" release is worth paying for. Blanski sounds like he should spend a little less time aping artistry and a little more time experiencing the source material. (Continued…)
