The men's music honorary Mu Alpha will host an informal "jam session" on Oct. 2 in the tradition of continuing relationships with fellow music honorary Phi Mu Alpha.

Last year, Mu Alpha invited men interested in music, including members of Phi Mu Alpha, over to play and listen to music. About 50 men attended. Mu Alpha president senior Zach Howard said it was a very good turnout and said he hopes to repeat that this year.

Howard emphasized the important distinction between connecting in an official capacity and continuing friendships built around the common interest of music. Howard said Mu Alpha hopes that this event encourages and deepens already-existing relationships between men in both groups.

"I've always appreciated that Mu Alpha has been looking for ways to improve relationships with Phi Mu Alpha," junior Isaac Johnson, vice-president of Phi Mu Alpha, said.

Both groups aim to advance music on campus and in the community. Phi Mu Alpha hosts events such as Battle of the Bands, the American Music Concert and a dodge ball tournament. Mu Alpha recently hosted a luau, and will be hosting a Frisbee golf tournament on Sept. 25 and a fall porch concert on Oct. 8.
