Charger softball fell for the second time this week to Wayne State University yesterday, losing both double-headers.

The Chargers lost 6-0 and 6-1 in Detroit. They now sit at 4-10 in the GLIAC and 10-16 overall.

The Chargers played another double header against Wayne State last Saturday, losing the first game 10-1 but bouncing back to win the second game 7-5. Sunday they were swept by Saginaw Valley State, 5-3 and 5-2.

Junior Devon Trimmer said the team continues to focus on hitting in both practices and games.

"We're a very good hitting team; we just needed to pull it together against Wayne State," Trimmer said. "They're a good team, but not an unbeatable team."

Saginaw Valley, who played the Chargers for the first and only time this season Sunday, delivered back-to-back losses to the Chargers. Despite solid hitting, Trimmer said the Chargers were often stuck with girls on second or third base but no runs.

"Their bats were hot, and we didn't have a lot of timely hitting," Trimmer said.

Senior Dana Gould hit her first collegiate home run during the first game, and Trimmer went an impressive 3-for-4 and scored two runs in the second game.

"Saginaw was just the better team that game," Trimmer said.

Head coach Jamie Meyers said the team will need to improve their hitting even more in order to compete against teams like Wayne State or Saginaw Valley, who boast some of the top ranked pitchers in the nation.

"We play the best teams in our conference," Meyers said. "In order to beat them we need to work on our situational hitting and executing bunts."

With freshman making up about half of the Chargers' starting lineup, Trimmer said the team has both potential and a fresh perspective on games. Once they hit their stride, Trimmer said they will be a force to be reckoned with.

The Chargers will next face Grand Valley State University Friday and Ferris State University Saturday, currently ranked fifth and second in the GLIAC, respectively.

"The next two weeks are gonna be the hardest two weeks of our season," Trimmer said. "We have four conference games in a row, and we need to win."
