That? Not journalism

I have been a long-time supporter of The Collegian, often defending it to those who needlessly criticize it; however, I was thoroughly disappointed by the baseball editorial last week. I thought that editorial was one of the most tasteless and least useful pieces I have ever seen in the Hillsdale Collegian. First of all, it did not once ascend above mere name-calling, which frankly, it doesn't take a journalist to do. Second, it was unfair and unkind, which ought to make The Collegian's readership doubt its objectivity in other articles; you ought to remember that the caliber of your opinions on the opinions page reflects how the school reads the entire paper. Furthermore, as editors, you rendered much of your staff ashamed to be associated with you - this piece wasn't fair to them, either.
Additionally, attacking a team for losing shows no class - you ought to at least remember what I'm sure your mothers told you: "It's not whether you win or lose; it's how you play the game." If anything, the baseball team's good humor and patience with this article has showed their characters to be far superior to your ad hominem attacks.
Finally, I propose that, if all of the editors are not present at the writing of the editors' opinion piece, those who wrote it should sign their names. Let the campus see who is responsible for the opinions presented there.
