Seniors make final graduation preparations
Registrar Doug McArthur said 271 seniors should graduate at next month's commencement ceremony, plus a handful more who will walk without receiving diplomas.
Students who have as many as eight credits left to finish can walk, provided they have a plan for completing them, McArthur said. This usually means taking summer school.
Out of those 271, 243 have picked up their caps and gowns, said Vicky Arno, assistant director of Career Planning. The remaining 28 can pick up their attire at the Career Planning Office during business hours, free of charge.
The final senior class meeting takes place at 6 p.m. on April 16, in Phillips Auditorium.
Commencement takes place on May 9 at 2 p.m.

Retro card game back in vogue
In mid-September a small group of students started meeting in A.J.'s Café to play a card game generally associated with an older age group: Bridge.
Attendance picked up after the group's moderator, Associate Professor of History Paul Moreno, sent a campus-wide e-mail about the games, senior Kevin King said, who started playing Bridge in his early teens.
"It's kind of an old person game, but I think we're reviving it," King said.
Freshman Maria Lams said anywhere from eight to 16 people show up at the weekly meetings.
"There's a high turnover," she said.
Freshman Blake Faulkner said he has recruited a number of people to the club, mostly by word-of-mouth.
Bridge is a trump game, where a given suit is worth more points than the others, Faulkner said. The game uses a point system and accommodates four players.
Bridge Club meets in A.J.'s on Mondays at 4 p.m. and runs until about 5:30 p.m., King said. Anyone who is interested can stop by to play or learn about the game.

Astronomy club night sky report
On Monday at approximately 9:13 a.m., the moon eclipses near the north of Antares by about a quarter of a degree. This is an occultation (eclipse of a star by the Moon or planet) as viewed from Hawaii, southern New Mexico and parts of Mexico and Honduras, but just a close approach from the rest of continental North America. The closest approach occurs after sunrise from all of North America except the West Coast. Still, the two will be quite close in the western sky before dawn everywhere.
