Six operas, one hour, McNamara

Opera workshop students will perform scenes from six operas in McNamara Rehearsal Hall tonight at 7:30 p.m. The performance will last about an hour.
Annually for about 15 years, the opera workshop class has performed full operas or scenes from operas, some of them student-directed, Artist-Teacher and Instructor of Music Melissa Osmond, the show's producer and director, said.
Osmond said this year's performance will more closely resemble a concert than an opera because performers will not use costumes or set.
The class would have performed in November, Osmond said, but many opera workshop students were soloists in the fall performance of Handel's "Messiah" or traveled to Colorado and Ohio with the chamber choir.
"Trying to schedule things in this department is a mess," Osmond said.
Students will perform scenes from Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro," "Don Giovanni," "The Magic Flute," "Bastien and Bastienna," Verdi's "Rigoletto" and Hollingsworth's "The Mother."
"Come and see opera in English," Osmond said.
