Saturday, the Hillsdale Rugby club travels to their first match of the spring season against the University of Findlay Rugby Club. Hillsdale is looking to build off a successful fall season in which they defeated teams from University of Michigan and Bowling Green University. Junior Ian Faley avoided saying they expect to beat Findlay, but said he has confidence in the ability of his teammates. It has been especially exciting for him to watch the rugby club be transformed during his time at Hillsdale.
"Our rugby club has gone from nothing to something formidable," said Faley. "We have developed into a team that rivals those at Michigan and Michigan State [University]." Part of this process was simply getting everyone to understand and play by the rules. Faley said, there are only two players on the team this semester without prior experience. Junior TJ Chapel is one of the rookies who will be playing in his first match against Findlay. He said he anticipates a return to competition after being forced out of football due to recurring back problems. Although Chapel admits he does not yet understand all the technical details of the sport, he said he thinks he can contribute. There is no doubt that he and his teammates will be responsible for plenty of high-speed collisions on the field that Findlay won't soon forget.
