60 mile per hour winds snapped a tree branch and knoked down a telephone wire in front of Niedfeldt Residence late Wedesday night. Campus security and Hillsdale police officers moved the wire from the road.

Winds clocked at 60 mph broke a large branch off a tree in front of Niedfeldt Residence late Wednesday night, knocking telephone lines into the street.

Security staffer Chad Spahr said he received word of the downed line at approximately 11:30 p.m.

As of midnight, Spahr said no power or telephone service had been interrupted.

Sergeant Steve Bancraft of the Hillsdale police said some of the downed telephone poles were rotten from age.

"The line was originally in the road," he said. "I had to move it."

College security and the police planned to remain on scene until road crews cleared debris from the street.
