The Chargers picked up another victory, winning more than half the events in the pool against Northern Michigan University with a final tally of 169-118. Thursday the Chargers travel to Wisconsin for the Carthage TYR Invitational two-day meet.
Freshman Linda Okonkowski said the team performed surprisingly well considering an eight hour bus ride the night before and the faster speed of the meet due to less events.
"Our confidence showed through our performance," she said.
The team swept eight of the 16 events. Senior diver Charlotte Wolfe had all-time high scores in both diving events and placed second in 1-meter with a score of 233.8 and third on 3-m at 232.75 points
Head coach Kurt Kirner said the team focused on their strokes and individual events, and senior captain Ali Lanctot said she felt the team pushed themselves well after the tiresome travel time.
At Carthage this weekend, Lanctot said she hopes the team gets good seed times for the conference meet since they generally swim well at this meet.
Okonkowski said Carthage will be good for the team mentally and physically since it has a similar layout to GLIAC conferences in February.
"(Carthage) will be a good indication of what the end of the season will bring," she said.
After Christmas break, the Chargers travel to Florida in January for winter training, a highlight of the season, Kirner said.
