The Charger swim team hosts their first home meet against the University of Findlay and Albion College Friday at 7 p.m. They hope to achieve faster and faster times and ultimately come out on top.

The Chargers face Albion for the first time, and senior team co-captain Meghan McDonald expressed the team's confidence in taking on Findlay's swimmers and their excitement to swim at home.

She added that the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle sprint events will provide stimulating competition with Findlay and fast-pace action for the fans.

Findlay now ranks last in the GLIAC, and while Hillsdale comes in at seventh of nine teams, Albion is swimming as a non-GLIAC school from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Both the away teams will bring their men's team as well to compete against each other.

Freshman swimmer Michaela Wolfe said hopes to represent Hillsdale positively in her first collegiate home meet.

"It's really exciting to show the college what the swim team is and how much we've accomplished," Wolfe said.

Head coach Kurt Kirner said his expectations for performance at this meet are high, especially after they had a week off from competition.

"I'd like to see us sweep events from start to finish," he said.

He especially wants to see consistent effort from the team and, individually, wants each swimmer to race well from physical and mental standpoints.

While swimming is a highly individualized sport, Kirner emphasized the importance of continually supporting and contributing to the team as a whole.

"We need to grind through these particular meets," Kirner said.

He said the team is swimming tired due to tough practices, but keeping perspective will help hard work pay off.

The ultimate payoff will be their final performances in the final GLIAC conference meet.

McDonald, Wolfe and their fellow teammates are ready to give it their all, and make Hillsdale proud.

"We want to have good races, always out-touching the competition." McDonald said.

"We really want to focus on racing our best and the times will take care of themselves," Wolfe said.
