Online registration begins; few glitches

Preregistration for spring 2009, the first semester for which Hillsdale students may register online, began Monday. Problems have been minor and few.
Sophomore Tom Sawyer, who registered as a senior, said he was initially unable to register because WebAdvisor did not recognize that his adviser, Assistant Professor of English Justin Jackson, had lifted restrictions, though Sawyer said he watched Jackson lift the restrictions. Sawyer said this prevented him from getting into a C.S. Lewis class.
He explained the problem to Jackson, who then e-mailed the C.S. Lewis instructor.
Sawyer was allowed into the class.
"I'm guessing there was just a glitch in the system," he said.
Because fewer students were expected to register in the registrar's office, the registrar's office published updates to next semester's class schedule via e-mail. Before students had the option to register online, updates were posted on the wall in the registrar's office. The number of updates has not changed significantly from previous semesters, registrar Douglas McArthur said.
McArthur said there have been no major problems with moving registration online.
"The scheduling seems to be going reasonably well," McArthur said.
