Out of control Obama hating

Throughout the 2008 presidential campaign, friends have told me that I am crazy, being dumb and jumping on the bandwagon because I support Barack Obama.

Though I never said anything back except that I disagree, I couldn't help but think of how they seem to be on a bandwagon of their own: The anti-Obama bandwagon.

It seems that lately many McCain supporters have taken to the hype of calling Obama out as a terrorist, Muslim, Communist and several other things the McCain campaign and conservative media have rumored him to be.

They have focused more on spitting out every negative remark they can about Obama than giving positive support to their own candidate (although now they mix that with singing the praises of Palin). Some things they say are downright crude and disturbing: "Obama could be the anti-Christ," "Obama Bin Laden," "kill him" and my favorite, "You need gloves to touch him." The fact that people say these things, even believe these things, is completely nonsensical. I respect those who do their research and have arguable reasons why they can't support Obama, but I cannot see how anyone who could say they won't vote for him because of these outlandish misconceptions is making a decision based on any kind of logical thinking.

The slandering of Obama has really gotten out of control, and is turning the campaign away from the things that are really important.

As a first-time voter trying to be sure that I'm making the right decision, I don't want the people who oppose me to try arguing with me about whether the candidate I support is a terrorist. I want to hear legitimate arguments about issues that affect everyone.
