In light of the recent small imbroglio over the article printed by The Collegian last week entitled, "Greeks, independents proud of chosen affiliations," I wish to clarify what I feel were poorly chosen words on my part. In the course of a 10-minute interview, I gave my thoughts on some issues that myself and others have with the current state of the Greek system at Hillsdale.

The author of the article correctly noted that my impressions are mainly due to my experience with fraternities - a fact signaled also by the terms of my comment. Nevertheless, a comment which I made in description of a specific, albeit large, contingent of Greek students was construed as a description of my feelings regarding the entire Greek system. Even then, it was probably not the best, most succinct encapsulation of my thoughts.

Regardless, I stand by the overall critique. If the shoe fits, wear it. If you are Greek and you are offended, it's likely because the comment does not apply to you. I know that there are some who are working to change the Greek system's reputation from being one of institutionalized vice -a reputation which I know some are equally proud of, although they wouldn't describe it as such.

There are many to whom my comment does apply without qualification - enough that I feel no compunction in speaking of them collectively. Entire houses, which shall remain nameless, have earned this reputation and do a handsome job of maintaining it. To this group I make no apologies whatsoever. Good day.
