This Saturday, the first ever Blue and White Challenge will pit student teams against one another in the spirit of healthy living.

The challenge is part of the college's new health and wellness program encouraged by President Larry Arnn.

"It's very relaxed and mostly to have fun," said Ashley LaCarter '08, director of residence life and campus recreation.

Events will begin at 10 a.m. with a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on the new outdoor basketball courts.

A relay race on the intramural fields will include sack, three-legged and wheelbarrow races.

The women's volleyball team plays Tiffin University at noon and football takes on Northwood University at 2:30 p.m.

At 1 p.m., a cornhole toss challenge will take place on the grassy area near Sage Center for the Arts.

Tailgating throughout the day is encouraged.
"People are more than welcome to bring their grills," LaCarter said.

Junior Ali Rentschler, president of fitness club, said the Blue and White Challenge will be a good introduction to the football season.

"This is kind of the first hoo-ha for football this year," Rentschler said.

Rentschler hopes the event will bridge gaps between students.

"It's to help promote unity across campus," she said. "The point of this is to get the school together."

She is especially looking forward to the relay challenge, Rentschler said.

"I think the relay will be really fun to watch," she said. "I mean, how long has it been since someone has been in a sack race?"

LaCarter is hoping for at least eight teams of five people each to join the challenge.

Students can still sign up to participate in LaCarter's office in the Student Activities Office.
