Quarterback Troy Weatherhead had a tough act to follow, but Saturday's season opener against St. Joseph College put him on the right track.

"[Saturday] was an ideal game for a first time starter," head coach Keith Otterbein said of Weatherhead. "He had a good presence on the field and was calm and made good decisions."

Weatherhead, a sophomore, follows Mark Nicolet ('08) who led the Chargers in 2007 to their best season in a decade. Nicolet also broke several school records, and accumulated awards and national recognition in the process.

Weatherhead completed 19 of his 22 passes against the Pumas.

"I really wasn't nervous," Weatherhead said about leading the offensive line for the first time Saturday. "Mark was such a good mentor. The greatest thing that could happen was him being before me so I could learn from him."
