Darkroom goes digital

Since the mid '70s, an almost hidden darkroom lurked in the corner of the second floor of the Sage Center for the Arts.
But after renovations this summer, that darkroom is now a little brighter and packed with top-of-the-line technology.
Starting this semester, digital photography and graphic design classes will use the new facility, said Art Lecturer Doug Coon, who oversaw the renovations.
"We wanted to create a lab with a little more space," Coon said. "It's going to be easier to move around from station to station when giving instruction."
The darkroom contains new Apple Mac Pros with 20-inch high-definition displays and the latest graphic-design and photo-editing software.
A projector connected to the master computer will allow for step-by-step instruction.
In the back right corner of the room is the printing lab, secured by a window wall and door that requires a student ID to gain access to print.
Only enrolled photography and graphic-art students will be permitted to use the new Epson printers.
Coon will teach an advanced digital photography class as an independent study this semester, then as a full three-credit class in the spring. He said the lab will help in developing photo-editing skills with the newer technologies and software now available.

Um, wasn't Sage built in 1994? Who's editing this paper?
