Jillian Melchior reviews: Organic Skin Care

Winter scents characterize themselves by their heaviness. Pine, cinnamon, chocolate, pumpkin - and all those smells have grown too old in our cupboards and on our faces.
So those looking to bring the spring into their bathroom drawer will enjoy the Juice Beauty Green Apple Organic Skin System.
The products smell like apple - but not the sugary green apple of drug-store suckers. Instead, a sniff reveals the fruits actually juiced and included inside: apple, lemon, aloe and white grape. It smarts wholesomeness. It's subtle and light, a refreshing product to use as the better seasons roll in.
And warm weather should mean less makeup. After all, who wants a full-foundation and powder face for the beach?
Juice Beauty's system seems to work. After the peel, antioxidant serum and moisturizer, skin felt softer and tighter. It also looked more glowing the next day.
Sadly, the peel didn't keep well. Even with the lid screwed on tightly, it solidified into an unusable glob as time passed. A dutiful user, however, could likely use all the product before it went bad. Everything else lasted beautifully.
All in all, the system's quality justifies its cost.
The set includes a cleanser moisturizer, antioxidant serum, apple peel, hydrating mist, and organic bamboo washcloth, all small enough to fit together in a makeup bag. $29 on Sephora.com.
The Hillsdale College combined choirs will begin their spring concert in sorrow and end with bittersweet joy this Sunday at 3 p.m. in College Baptist Church. The concert opens with the entire choir singing Gabriel Fauré's "Requiem," a 7-movement piece performed in memory of chamber choir tenor Dylan Lindgren. Lindgren died in March of cancer.
