Fall resident assistant hopefuls received a delayed response this year from the dean of women on their applications, partly because of a larger-than-normal number of applicants, Dean of Women Diane Philipp said. Final decisions on the women's positions came out last Friday.

The delay caused some women trouble in sorting rooming situations for next year.

"I did have to wait a while," said freshman Melissa Stewart, who will serve as an RA in Mauck Hall next year "I wasn't as worried about it as some people were. In general, everybody who applied was getting a little antsy because they wanted to know who they were rooming with. In general, they were frustrated."

The dean's offices determine housing after grades are out, Philipp said.

"Things are just still shifting," Philipp said, "and that happens always."
