Assistant Professor of History David Raney will act as director of Hillsdale College's Honors Program beginning next semester.
Provost Robert Blackstock selected him after Assistant Professor of Religion Don Westblade announced his resignation from the post.
"I hope to put my own stamp on the program," Raney said. "[But] I'm still determining what changes to make to make, if any, in conjunction with others who have gone before."
Westblade, who served as director for five years, said he simply decided he'd held the position for long enough.
"Five years is as long as anybody's ever done it," he said. "It was about the right time, I thought."
He said he recommended Raney to Blackstock.
Raney started involving himself in the program when he came to Hillsdale three years ago. He leads group discussions and holds other forms of "tangential involvement."
"A lot of things just pointed to him as a suitable candidate," Westblade said. "It has to be someone who's interested in doing this for its own rewards."
