The William and Berniece Grewcock painting revealed during the Grewcock Student Union's dedication made way for a photograph in the building's commons during spring break.
Workers removed the large painting, which hung next to the Winston Churchill statue, and replaced it with a framed photograph of the Grewcocks. They stand in front of a bookshelf featuring books by Clarence Thomas and Mark Helprin, among others.
Research assistant Stephani Francl said the Grewcocks still like the painting, but they felt the books in the photograph's background befit the college.
"They like the connection the books have with Hillsdale College," Francl said.
She said they swapped the portraits during spring break to avoid any inconveniences to students in the union because of the portrait size.
Francl said the painting is in storage until further notice.
"It's being stored until the Grewcocks or Dr. Arnn decide where it will go."
