Hillsdale College's administration recently chose a design firm for its pending residence hall renovations, Vice President for Student Affairs Diane Philipp said.
They picked r.o.i. Design, a Grand Rapids, Mich., firm that offers architectural planning, interior design and graphic design services.
She said the college may opt for a few building additions here and there, but they intend to use r.o.i. for mostly lower-scale aesthetic redesigning.
They plan to renovate Simpson and Olds residences and Mauck, McIntyre and Galloway halls.
She said they hope to open up more "common space" in those buildings by changing room layouts and furniture and potentially adding facilities like kitchens, fireplaces and pianos in the dormitories that lack them.
They might also add more study space and potentially even computer labs in the dormitories, she said.
"This is kind of the ideas stage," she said. "We're still gathering information."
She said representatives from the design firm will appear in the Grewcock Student Union this Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to talk to students about design ideas.
"They will just welcome any conversation with students," she said.
She said the firm will also send engineers into the buildings to plan updates to the wiring, plumbing, heating systems and other such areas.

I am working in industry for a while. I started as a on ordinary designer and I have been the head of department. It's difficult to find the best design when it comes on what belongs to you, on your environment. (Continued…)
