n a meeting on Monday, external affairs continued work to finalize the style guide, which they hope to complete by April, said Angela Lashaway, college art director.
Included in the style guide is a change to the brand identity and a new motto: "Pursuing Truth. Defending Liberty. Since 1844."

At the meeting, external affairs finalized plans to purchase a 1,000-computer license for Minion font use and scheduled to convert college business cards and stationary to the new designs.

"We are trying to address co-branding on campus," Lashaway said. "We're progressing pretty good right now."

Lashaway looks forward to use of a new paper stock, she said.

"One of the papers that we're looks at and are real excited about is one that is milled right here in Michigan, from Niles, Mich.," Lashaway said.
The style guide will set a standard for all outgoing college documentation and help create a cohesive brand for the college, Associate Vice President for Strategic Marketing Chris Bachelder said.

"It's in process," Bachelder said. "We're not at a milestone or end point where we can show out or point out progress."

Lashaway expects the style guide to be completed by April 2008, she said.

"That's one of the great things about the style guide," she said. "I can say, 'this is why we're doing this.'"

Why in the world should the motto change? I for one am rather enamored with the current "Educating for Liberty Since 1844". This is neither a Bible college nor a military academy - "Pursuing Truth. (Continued…)

"Pursuing Truth. Defending Liberty. Oh Yeah. And Educating, And Stuff. Since 1844."

Amanda, I disagree. The college motto should actually match what goes on here, and match the true aspirations of the administration. (Continued…)
