The Hillsdale City Council met Monday night to approve a $5,500 contract with Domestic Harmony. Domestic Harmony is a non-profit organization which provides shelter for domestic abuse victims.
"We need every penny we can get to keep the shelter open," said Sheri Kline, chairman of the board for Domestic Harmony.
Domestic Harmony lost a $35,000 dollar grant given by the state of Michigan earlier in the year.
Stacy Wables, director of Domestic Harmony, said the shelter has been open for 29 years and is constantly used.
The contract was approved 8-0.
The council also contracted Jenkins Engineering to inspect the Hillsdale Millpond dam for $1,500.
