Student Federation granted $14,800 to the senior class gift Wednesday: an amphitheater behind Delp Hall estimated to cost $60,000. This was less than the $17,800 requested by senior class representatives last week.

The senior class must raise the remaining $3,000 beyond the $2,200 that it has already contributed and recognize the federation and student body as co-sponsors in the funding of the gift.

"Given the money we had at our disposal I think we made the most prudent decision considering future capital improvements," said federation President Craig Kreinbihl, a junior. "We were also able to give more ownership of their project to the seniors by enabling them to raise some money and we hope to help them with that."

The senior class proposed their original request based on the extra funds Student Federation had collected from student fees collected over the past three years in response to a budget deficit.

"I'm really excited that this money is being used because of the hard work that went into making this funding possible," said Kreinbihl. "We recognize and the senior class recognizes that this is a parting gift from them and a lasting gift from the whole student body."

In other business, the federation granted $400 to Students in Free Enterprise to cover the cost of gas for travel to an upcoming convention in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Student Federation meets Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m. in the Student Activities Office. They encourage students to attend and express concerns.

Student Federation can also be reached by e-mail at studentfederation@hillsdale.edu.
