With the support of the group's national advisor, Panhellenic Council voted with Chi Omega sorority to remove its incoming president after a recruitment week infraction which occurred near the beginning of the semester.

The council asked one Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority member along with two Chi Omega members to leave for the remainder of recruitment week after three male students and alcohol were discovered with them in a freshman dormitory, senior Jenny Bowser said. Bowser served as a Panhellenic officer with last year's council.

"According to our bylaws and the National Panhellenic Conference Guidelines we had to inform [the incoming president's] house that because of the incident she would not be able to continue on the council," Bowser said. "I think she was the best suited for the position, but because of what had happened it was clear in the rules that she was no longer eligible to hold a position."

Sophomore Christine Timlin became the new president when her house voted her into the position.

"When the change happened I was a little overwhelmed at first," Timlin said. "But I've had a lot of help."

Last year, the Panhellenic Council worked to simplify complicated and unnecessary recruitment rules, Bowser said. At the national advisor's suggestion, the council set out to create a trust-based system of rules.

"They did an awesome job, except for the last few days," said Joanna Wiseley, Hillsdale's Panhellenic advisor. "But they did an awesome job simplifying the rules and that council should definitely be commended. All of them."

The change in leadership transitioned more smoothly than she anticipated, Wisley said.

"It's a clean slate with a clean council," she said. "We're ready to move forward."

Timlin plans to focus on upholding the new set of simplified rules and the upcoming Greek Week events, she said.

"It's a lot more responsibility and it's getting myself out of my comfort zone," Timlin said. "It's just a new experience and I'm really excited about it."

A national Panhellenic advisor will visit Hillsdale College March 3 for a training session.
