Blue 'senior sidewalk' will return

The bright blue sidewalk where graduating seniors have traditionally scribbled and painted tributes to their college experience was removed, but will return in time for the class of 2008 to leave their mark.
The sidewalk was removed over Christmas vacation because of construction on Strosacker Science Center.
The new senior sidewalk will remain outside the Knorr Student Center, but will look different. As workers renovate the old quad, the giant slabs of concrete will be replaced with smaller ones, and there will also be grass in the area. A canopy will not protect the new sidewalk.
"[The sidewalk will] probably get a little more wear, but for tradition's sake, we can still have it there," said Rich Péwé, vice president of administration.
Several seniors immediately noticed the sidewalk's removal.
"I did notice it, and my first reaction was, 'Well, that sucks,' the seniors last year only having it for part of the year," senior Meredith Tong said.
Senior Cody Strecker went to talk to Péwé as soon as he noticed the sidewalk missing.
"I talked to him last semester," Strecker said. "He showed me the plans and I showed him what I thought."
Strecker considers the sidewalk an important tradition for Hillsdale College students.
"I just like the whole concept of seniors being able to leave something for future students," Strecker said.
Strecker is happy with the new plans for the sidewalk.
"I'm real excited [about the] plans for that new section of campus," Strecker said. "I can't wait to see that whole new quad."
