Three Hillsdale athletes received Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner's Awards for Academic and Athletic Excellence for fall 2007.
Seniors Mark Nicolet, Nick Gurica and Melissa Bartlett won the award for their performance in the classroom and in their field of play.
The award, initiated this year and sponsored by Meijer, Inc., honors six men and six women student-athletes for the fall, winter and spring seasons - 36 GLIAC student-athletes each year.
Of the twelve awards given, Hillsdale won the most.
"I think it's really representative of the school," Nicolet said. "We bring in athletes that are willing to work."
Bartlett, a biology major with a 3.56 GPA, was named 2007 GLIAC Volleyball Player of the Year.
Gurica holds a 3.92 GPA and set records as a wide receiver for receptions in a season (78) and receptions in a game (13).
Nicolet is majoring in financial management and holds a 3.60 GPA. Among many athletic honors bestowed to the Charger quarterback this year, most recently he was named offensive MVP at the Valero Cactus Bowl in Kingsville, Texas.
