Students living in Simpson and McIntyre residences were the first to receive mail in the Grewcock Student Union Tuesday, as campus mail delivery transitions from residence halls to individual mailboxes installed in the lower level of the union.
The mailboxes are coming online later than administration officials had originally intended because the key-specific cores were delivered late, Vice President of Administration Rich Péwé said.
All on-campus student mail will be delivered to the mailboxes by Feb. 4, Student Activities Director Rebekah Dell said. Students who live off campus will continue to receive mail delivered to their residences by the U. S. Postal Service.
Mail will be delivered to the boxes between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Dell said. Packages can be picked up in the mail room on the lower floor of the union during those hours as well.
Péwé said getting mail in the student union will increase the sense of community on campus.
"It's smarter with our resources," Dell said. "It saves time and money. It also offers more student employment. Because of this, I was able to offer five more student positions."
