Price said Paul's anti-NAFTA platform probably attracted many Southeastern Michigan residents, whose jobs have been threatened by Michigan's lagging economy. Residents in rural regions of the "thumb" of Michigan also showed significant support for Paul, voting 10 to 12 percent for him, Price said.
Hillsdale resident Gene Pauken, who learned of Paul a couple years ago, supports him for another reason: his adherence to the Constitution.
"I think he stands for all the things we need," Pauken said. "Things that the parties don't care about anymore."
Price said the campaign is looking forward to upcoming primaries in other states, and that they were happy with a fourth place finish in the Michigan primaries, beating Sen. Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani.
Mahan and Pauken agreed that Paul's lasting effect is important even if he does not secure the Republican nomination.
"I think he's brought people out," Mahan said. "People are finally understanding what's going on - where the country is heading - and want to stop it."

I'm a big Ron Paul fan, though 17% isn't exactly that great. :(
Hopefully next time around voters will realize that his ethics and ideas make him (IMO) the best candidate for the job. (Continued…)
