The Hillsdale College women's basketball team dominated opponents two weekends in a row, beginning their season 4-0.

The team traveled to Ashland, Ohio, for the annual Ashland University Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 24-25.

The Chargers defeated Shepherd University 81-66 Saturday and Alderson-Broaddus College 78-49 Sunday.

Freshman Kara McCormick led the team Saturday with 17 points.

"She comes in and she's a spark," head coach Claudette Charney said. "She's our sixth man and she's filling that role very well."

The Chargers were eight points behind when McCormick entered the game and quickly racked up points for the team during her 22 minutes of play.

Junior Katie Cezat was the lead scorer against Alderson-Broaddus with 27 points.
The team took first at the Shippensburg tournament Nov. 16-17 and Cezat was named MVP of the tournament.

"You have to score to do that," Charney said. "You have to have two consistent games."

Cezat had 26 points and nine rebounds against West Virginia Wesleyan College and 18 points against Shippensburg University.
She averaged 22.5 points per game that
weekend.

"Katie was big for us, she tore it up," junior Claire Aubrey said. "She's the type of player that goes out there and gets it done."

After their 66-55 victory Nov. 16 the team went on to beat Shippensburg 64-49 the next day.

"We improved from the first to the second game," Cezat said of the Shippensburg tournament. "We learned a lesson that we have to play hard from beginning to end."
Charney said the team's biggest focus now will be to develop roles on the team and get more contributions from the players while off the bench.

In addition, Charney said the team must focus on defense in order to continue success.

"We need to start games better," Charney said. "As long as we play defense that has to be what we do best."
