A semester's worth of artistic energy was rewarded Tuesday at the opening reception of the Fall Student Art Exhibit at the Daughtery Gallery of the Sage Center for the Arts.
Senior Leah Wild earned "Best in Show" and $150 for her oil clay sculpture work, "Anatomy Lesson." The work depicts an obese female figure, rendered on one side as flesh and the other side in muscle.
Dozens of students gathered to view works in five media categories: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing and graphic design. The exhibit will run for 46 days, into the middle of January. Admission is free.
Art majors enrolled in studio classes voted for works in each category to determine winners. Art faculty determined "Best in Show."
Fall Student Art Exhibit Winners:
Photography: Laura Reavie, "Skin"
Drawing: Brita Thompson, "Myself"
Painting: Cassandra Bacon, "Birches"
Design: Emily Breiner, "Blindness"
Sculpture: Kate Reiner, "Study"
Replica: Brandon Irish, "Vetruvian Man"
