Charger quarterback Mark Nicolet, a senior, was named the GLIAC Player of the Year Wednesday after a spectacular, record-breaking season.
"Gosh, it truly is an honor knowing the level of competition in this conference and the number of good players we have," Nicolet said. "This was definitely a surprise."
Nicolet headed the GLIAC with 303 passing yards per game and 31 passing touchdowns. He also was the only GLIAC quarterback to throw five touchdowns in three different games.
While Nicolet was honored, he acknowledged this honor would not exist for him without his teammates.
"This year has truly been a team effort," he said. "Any postseason award is a credit to the team."
The player of the year is chosen by league coaches.
