After an impressive 2007 season, Hillsdale volleyball's postseason run came to an abrupt end last Thursday.

The Chargers played in the NCAA Regional Tournament for the fourth straight year; but like two of the last three years, they lost in the opening round.

The sixth-seeded Chargers took on third-seeded University of Indianapolis. Hillsdale came out strong, winning the first game of the match, but the Greyhounds took control of the next matches, winning the last three games for a 3-1 win.

Despite a hard effort, the team just couldn't get things going during the match.

"We won the first game," head coach Chris Gravel. "But we were still not on our game. We just couldn't find our flow. We worked hard and played hard, but we just played a good team when our rhythm escaped us."

Leading the way for the Chargers was freshman Amanda Bigney, who set a new career high with 24 kills. Her performance also earned her a spot on the All-Region Tournament team. Junior Stephanie Booms also had a strong performance with her second career triple double, finishing with 14 kills, 50 assists and 12 digs.

Hillsdale ends their season with an overall record of 26-8.

With the end of the season, the Chargers say goodbye to seniors Melissa Bartlett, Caitlin Baron, Megan Howard, Jen Pilot and Devon Blain.

However, the team also will begin looking ahead to next year, which is filled with promise and unfinished goals.

"We have a lot of unknowns, a good freshmen class and a group of determined returning players," Gravel said. "We are hoping for another great season, but we know the tons of work that's yet to be done. And we'll start chipping away at it today."
