Thirty-three Hillsdale students pledged "their sacred honor" to Delta Tau Delta fraternity Friday night in Phillips Auditorium.
Delt members from the University of Michigan joined alumni and national chapter representatives to initiate and welcome the new Kappa Crescent chapter members.
"These are going to be the guys that will stand next to your for the rest of your life," Delt and Dean of Sciences Chris VanOrman said during the ceremony. "You have such a unique opportunity on this campus to redefine what a fraternity means. I wish you the very best."
The 33 students recited the pledge, accepted their pledge pins, and were welcomed by Delt alumni, family and friends after the ceremony.
Hillsdale City Mayor Michael Sessions presented chapter president Junior Julius Goertzen with a plaque denoting Nov. 9, 2007, as Delta Tau Delta Day in the city of Hillsdale.
Chapter consultant Jameson Root presented Goertzen with a new Delt flag.
Junior Gavin Phelps said he is excited about learning how to make an impact on campus.
Senior Mike LaMarra, a Delt from the University of Michigan, said the school's DTD chapter re-colonized last fall after closing down in 2001, a situation similar to Hillsdale's.
"I am very pleased," he said.
LaMarra is excited about Delt relations between the two schools.
