Dunks, half-court shots, three-pointers and prizes contributed to the excitement of the annual Midnight Madness Friday night. The event, held at Roche Sports Complex, was organized for the first time by the college's Spirit Club.
"What is different about this is that we involved the community," said Spirit Club President Anna Ashmore, a senior. "The goal is to introduce the men's and women's basketball teams to both the school and city community in an exciting way."
Junior Ryan Walsh opened the night by offering a Hillsdale College rap, and senior Cody Strecker served as the master of ceremonies
"I'm excited to be here and support my friends and see them strut their stuff," sophomore Katie Hunt said.
No event produced more "strutting" than the dunk contest. Junior men's basketball captain Tony Gugino took the contest title in an impressive style by leaping over a standing student.
Senior forward Tim Homan said the dunk contest brought with it the kind of excitement the teams hope to give to the fans at each game this year.
