The Hillsdale College athletic department announced this week that Athletic Director Michael Kovalchik resigned from his position as head softball coach Monday after assuming the spot in June. The newly-promoted interim head coach, Jamie Meyers '06, has been leading the team since Monday.
The Hillsdale graduate, who rejoined the team this year as its assistant coach, said she was ready for the position.
"I feel prepared," Meyers said. "The things I have done to this point have prepared me well. I'm very excited about this opportunity."
The players declined to speak to The Collegian, but senior Brecken Libbe wrote to The Collegian on behalf of the team.
"We as a team will support coach Jamie 100 percent. She is a very knowledgeable coach and we know we have a lot of hard work in front of us."
While at Hillsdale Meyers was a two-time team captain, career home run record holder, and three-time Second Team All-GLIAC member. She said she is looking forward to running practices as head coach.
John Redding is entering his second year as volunteer assistant coach for the softball team.
