Pending the possibility of rain, Slayton Arboretum will host the annual garden party this Friday, Sept. 7.
The 11-piece band that performed at the first garden party, Skyline and the Backstreet Horns, will play this year, providing music for all types of dance, Student Activities Director Rebekah Dell said.
Constantly checking the Friday weather forecast, Dell said she is prepared to hold the event somewhere else.
"Right now I'm watching the weather very closely," she said. "We may be needing a rain location."
Last year approximately 800 people attended. Dell expects at least that many this year, she said.
"It takes up about one-fifth of the Student Activities Board budget," Dell said. "It is one of our larger event of the year."
Senior Javonne Padgett attended the event
during one of her previous years.
"I'm not a very 'let's all go to a dance' kind of person," Padgett said. "It's basically alternative kinds of dancing, so you can go with all of your friends and dance in one place."
It runs 9 p.m. to midnight.
