Moreno to replace Kalthoff as dean of faculty

Paul Moreno, associate professor of history, will replace Hillsdale College's longest-serving dean of faculty, Mark Kalthoff, on June 30. Chris and Penny Windgate planned to open the Broad Street Downtown Market on May 22, in the building that Broad Street Market occupied until it closed at the end of March. Students train for four years to test for black belts; instructor has coached 300 black belts in 34 years

Ten columns of white bodies sat, watching juniors Priscilla Motley and Theodore Gregory kick the air near each other with bare feet at the Roche Sports Complex Saturday. Motley, Gregory and eight other students passed their first test for a black belt. Senior Master Brian Anderson, instructor of the Anderson Institute and founder of the Tae Kwon Do program at Hillsdale College, said judges tested each student in three categories: focus, technique and overall performance. Omicron Delta Kappa, the campus leadership honorary, hosted 20 local high school students for a three-hour seminar on leadership training last Friday. Sophomore Lee Kauffman was eight years old when he saw his first murder. Straight-faced and curly haired, he describes the experience unblinkingly. "A guy got shot outside our kitchen window," Kauffman said. "Gang stuff. People got killed all the time."
