Every Saturday afternoon, about 40 Hillsdale College students from a multitude of different denominations meet at the Church of the Nazarene for prayer meetings and fellowship. Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority pinned for dirty rushing during recruitment

Busted for breaking recruitment rules, members from Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority learned Sunday they must deal with a semester of social probation. A Panhellenic councilmember said members from Pi Beta Phi and Chi Omega sororities complained in January that members of Kappa Kappa Gamma allegedly sent text messages to potential members, promising bids into their house in exchange for listing Kappa Kappa Gamma as their first and only choice. Campus loses Internet access for nearly 10 hours; students complain about lost information and application deadlines

An "open" or broken fiber optic circuit between Hillsdale College and Spring Arbor, Mich., caused all campus Internet to shut down Wednesday for nearly 10 hours. Campus computers only allowed students to access Hillsdale e-mail accounts. AT&T employees identified the problem mid-afternoon and dispatched technicians to find the problematic fiber optic cable, buried along M-99. (0) comments

Winds down telephone line, branch

Winds clocked at 60 mph broke a large branch off a tree in front of Niedfeldt Residence late Wednesday night, knocking telephone lines into the street. Security staffer Chad Spahr said he received word of the downed line at approximately 11:30 p.m. As of midnight, Spahr said no power or telephone service had been interrupted. (0) comments

Budget suffers, expenses examined

Hillsdale College Board of Trustees to discuss 2010 projected budget in Naples, Fla. Tuesday

The Hillsdale College Board of Trustees could approve the preliminary 2010 budget at its meeting in Naples, Fla., on Tuesday. Administrators expect the board to decide on a final budget in May. After the college endowment took a hit of about 20 percent when the economy plunged last fall, the college had to cut costs this financial year and decrease the proposed budget for next year, said Ken Cole, the college's chief administrative officer, treasurer and chief financial officer. An accidental encounter with pornography on a classroom projector last semester went unnoticed by the professor, but the story was virally passed through the student body. It was Nov. 19 in Associate Professor of History Burt Folsom's economic history class. (0) comments

DTD rakes in freshmen; complete pre-installation tasks for charter

Delta Tau Delta fraternity picked up 22 new members Sunday, bringing the total number of men in the fraternity to 62 and making it the biggest fraternity on campus. The final step before the chapter could be installed required the fraternity to meet campus average. (1) comment

A Hillsdale College consultant unintentionally plagiarized two paragraphs of a story about Hillsdale College's shooting range from the Sept. 25 issue of the Collegian, for an article published in the National Rifle Association's "American Hunter" magazine this fall. (0) comments

Circle K drive a sucess, group says The Hillsdale College chapter of Circle K, the collegiate level of Kiwanis, finished its second annual Mott's Children's Hospital of Ann Arbor drive Monday. Accepting donations ranging from matchbox cars to coloring books, the college's Circle K group filled two boxes combined with Hillsdale County's Kiwanis drive, filling three eight-foot tables, said Circle K President Sandra Pooley, a junior.
